Ohio is very different from Richard's hometown (NYC), from where Lisa and Richard live (Greenville, SC) or from where Lisa went to school (the South). Though she was born in Florida, Lisa grew up in Ohio. In Richard's hometown, cows are only seen in zoos. In Ohio, they're pretty much everywhere. Richard likes this about Ohio (along with the tractors and the presence of much farm-country meat at every meal).
Both Richard and Lisa love Amish country. Lisa's Mom has taken them on some great trips to Amish country and the Inn at Honey Run. As usual, food plays a starring role and it's hard to argue with homemade bread and pies and lots of chicken and noodles. But it's also fascinating to see the Amish people, existing along-side modern-day American culture.
We also love the Ohio State Fair. It makes any other fair (except maybe the Texas State Fair) look piddly. But the Greene County Fair is a great little experience too. Where else can you enter the Bake-It-With-Lard Contest (sponsored of course by the Varner Family)?
