Richard and Lisa come from very different families: different sizes (4 kids vs. 2), different places (NYC vs. small-town Ohio), and different ethnic backgrounds (Irish and Slovak vs. Mutt). Richard grew up in a big-city apartment, while Lisa's childhood was spent in a single-family house in a small Midwestern town. It was different, all right!
But they've really gained a lot from learning about each other's background and family experiences. Richard has been exposed now to farm machinery, farm food, and (when in Biloxi) the wonders of poker and slot machines. Lisa had the honor of attending Richard's parents' 50th wedding anniversary and realizing just how white-bread-American she really is, in comparison!
It's culture clash, at times. Richard's a fast (and loud) talker, and Lisa has some expressions and sayings that are quite puzzling to Richard. But hey, different is good (or at least it can keep things interesting).
